Cesi Amoretti’s retrospective show titled “Looking for the light”, edited by Fulvio Cervini and Giancarlo Manco, has taken place at the center located at Villa Borselli in Arma di Taggia (IM) from December 13th to January 31st 2009, as part of the event titled “Art in the Villa” .

In that occasion I have been able to photograph the works that I introduce in the section of my site that I devote  to the memory of this important artist my fellow citizen.

Cesi Amoretti was born in Sanremo (IM) in 1929 where she lived all her life except for a period, from 1950 to 1958, when she moved and lived in Milan.

Cesi’s work initially placed itself within the circle of a neo-figuration directed towards the geometric decomposition of the nature datum, for then approaching the action painting.

After the meeting with Antonio Calderara and Michel Seuphor, Cesi found her own congenial and original dimension in an abstractionism from the definite minimalist connotation in which elementary figures, circles and squares, become protagonists of her compositions, just crossed by essential graphic signs.

In the late seventies she abandoned the great homogeneous campitures for a more faceted plot of open orthogonal structures, that favoured new aggregations of figures. It was in this period that the light gained an increasing importance in the definition of the forms, and her abstractionism obtained an ever increasing lyric inclination.

Between the end of the seventies and the beginning of the eighties, Cesi devoted herself to graphics and her "artist's books."  From 1977 to 1985 she also became involved in some performances.

Towards the end of the eighties she moved from the "minimal perceptions" to the "intimate perceptions", or "Mediterranean", which characterized the production of the last few years, in which geometry becomes light’s refraction system, diurnal or nocturnal, where allusions are made to the atmospheric, maritime or celestial nature.
